About the Book:
Grandeur and opulence are everything in the famed New Orleans Garden District where pets are family and no bling is too big. Opening Furry Godmother, pet boutique and organic treat bakery, is Lacy Marie Crocker’s dream come true–until the glitter gun used to make her Shih Tzu tutus becomes a murder weapon. And Lacy becomes public enemy #1.
Now Detective Jack Oliver is hounding Lacy, and her Furry Godmother investor wants out before his name is tarnished by association. To make matters worse, a string of jewel heists with suspicious ties to the murder case has New Orleans residents on edge. To save her dream, Lacy must take a stand, put her keen eyes to work, and unravel what really happened at her shop that night. But can Lacy sniff out the killer cat burglar in time to get her tail-raising designs on the catwalk?
I’m in love with this series already! Lacy is from an affluent family in the New Orleans Garden District but she doesn’t act like it. She is very down-to-earth and her character has been written wonderfully. She has the opportunity to never want for anything but she wants to make her own way in the world. Instead of falling back on family money, she works hard to get through college and start her own business – a pet boutique. When a shady character strolls through her door, comes back later and breaks in, then winds up dead after Lacy sprays him with glitter, everything she’s worked so hard to achieve is threatened. Especially since the hot detective on the case has already ruled her as guilty.
Oh, Detective Jack Oliver….be still thy fluttering heart. His character in Cat Got Your Diamonds is a fresh take on cozy mystery heroes. Sure, he’s the standard potential love interest police officer but he’s so much more. His banter with Lacy had me rooting for them through the entire book. The chemistry is spot on and can be felt by the reader.
I am impressed by the way the author was able to keep suspicion off of the true killer. I was none the wiser until the big reveal and didn’t suspect a thing. The path to solving the murder was paved with several potential candidates that had means and motive. There is also a twist to the story that I never saw coming. Bravo, Julie Chase, bravo!!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
